About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Cabernet Franc vineyard lies at 250 m above sea level with a south-eastern exposure. Planting density is 6,400 vines per hectare, and the vines are trained to bilateral spurred cordon.
Grapes
Cabernet Franc.
Vinification
Harvest normally takes place during the last ten days of September. The grapes are destemmed and softly crushed, followed by 20–25 days of controlled-temperature fermentation in thermoregulated stainless-steel tanks. Stabilization is performed by cold.
Ageing
The wine matures for 14 months in 225 L medium-toast Allier oak barriques, 40% of which are first-use, followed by 12 months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Brilliant ruby red with violet highlights. The bouquet evokes wild red fruit, spice, balsamic nuances and wild herbs. The palate is rounded, full and fruit-driven, with currant, raspberry and strawberry, paprika and pink pepper, soft tannins and an elegant, lingering finish.
Label / history
Altizi grew out of the estate’s continuing work with Cabernet Franc, seeking to express the variety’s strong, distinctive temperament, spicy character and ripe red-fruit profile.
