Early to bud and late to ripen, which gives it one of the longest seasons in the south. A wet autumn is its enemy: the bunches are compact and take rot. In Taurasi and on Vulture it makes a deep ruby wine that ages towards garnet with orange at the rim, dry and firmly tannic, long after the swallow.
