About this wine
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at full ripeness from 1 to 10 September, by which time they have developed a golden hue. After gentle pressing, the wine ferments in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine rests in bottle for at least four months before release.
Label / history
Kabir takes its name from the Arabic word for “great.” Donnafugata means “woman in flight” in Italian, referring to the legend of Queen Maria Carolina, who fled Naples and took refuge in a palace in a town at the heart of the Santa Margherita Belice valley. The story inspired the windblown woman’s head depicted on many Donnafugata labels.
The Rallo family had produced wine in Sicily for 150 years when it established Donnafugata as a more modern winery.
