Label / history
Fontana Candida was founded in 1958 in Lazio, in the ancient agricultural area of Agro Tuscolano. The estate occupies the site of an old Roman villa thought to have belonged to the poet Quintus Horatius Flaccus. Marcus Porcius Cato discussed the region and its winemaking traditions in On Agriculture.
Frascati has long been called “the wine of priests”: in ancient times it was made for priests, while the wider population drank it only during major Vatican church holidays. Fontana Candida’s emblem is a wide glass designed specifically for Frascati wines. The company produces 7.5 million bottles annually, exporting 5.5 million of them.
