About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from 85-year-old vines at 650 m above sea level, growing in sandy soils containing granite and clay. The grapes are harvested by hand and sorted in the vineyard.
Vinification
The grapes are destemmed and macerated for 25 days. Fermentation takes place with natural yeasts in open-top vessels. Before bottling, the wine is neither fined nor filtered; sulfur is added only in minimal amounts.
Ageing
The wine matures for 24 months in 1,500- and 2,000-litre Slavonian oak botti.
Tasting profile
Powerful yet airy and ethereal.
Label / history
Giovanni dedicates the wine to his wife, Franzisca, each year. The name “Barrosu” means “vain” in the local dialect, referring to Giovanni's admission that he praised the wine excessively whenever he tasted it. Annual production is limited to no more than 1,000 bottles. Each bottle is sealed with wax, individually numbered and signed.
