The nose shows clear notes of ripe fruit. The palate is soft and fresh.
Label / history
The name Mamuthone refers to one of the central masked figures in Mamoiada’s traditional carnival, one of Sardinia’s oldest festivals. The Mamuthone wears a rough-featured black wooden mask and sheepskins decorated with bells. Although the figures appear frightening and make a fearsome noise, their arrival is eagerly awaited; the costume was traditionally associated with good fortune in farming. The carnival also features the Issohadore mask.
Giuseppe and Grazia Sedilesu founded the family winery 35 years before this account. After many years of selling grapes to other producers, the family began making wine under its own name in 2000. Production doubled over the following decade, during which a new cellar was built. The estate is now run by their children and their families: Antonietta and Emilio, Francesco and Rosa, and Salvatore and Mariella. Giuseppe and Grazia have 13 grandchildren.
The winery sits on the administrative board of the Consorzio di Tutela del DOC Cannonau di Sardegna, which protects the Cannonau di Sardegna brand, and participates in the La Strada del vino Cannonau project.
