About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The grapes grow in the Castiglione di Sicilia microzone on Etna’s northern slope. The vines are 10 years old on average.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, placed in small crates and taken to the winery. After gentle pressing, the pista e mutta process separates the must from the skins following a short maceration. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 20–25 °C.

Ageing

The wine rests in cement tanks for five months, followed by two months in bottle in the winery’s cellars.

Tasting profile

Fresh and crisp like a white wine, with the rounded, soft character of a red.

Label / history

Alnus was created as a tribute to the hundreds of generations of winemakers who cultivated and preserved these vines over many centuries. It was originally conceived as a rosé, although the winery considers that designation an incomplete reflection of its character. A total of 6,600 bottles of the 2012 vintage were released.
