About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The 2020 cru is made exclusively from grapes selected in the historic Vigna Pinino, in the northern part of Montalcino. The vineyard lies at 284.2 m above sea level, faces southeast and has a stony soil containing galestro and alberese. The vines are trained to spurred cordon.

100% Sangiovese Grosso.

Harvest took place from 21 September to 2 October. Fermentation was conducted in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, followed by 18–25 days of skin maceration.
Ageing
At least 30 months in oak casks and barriques.
Technical data
The wine page gives 14% alcohol, while the 2020 fact sheet gives 14.5%. Total acidity is 5 g/L and dry extract 30.8 g/L. Production comprised 4,000 bottles in 750 ml format.
Tasting profile
Deep, intense ruby red. The nose and palate are elegant and refined, with red-fruit notes of cherry, black cherry, redcurrant and raspberry. Oak supports the fruit without masking it. The palate is sophisticated, with velvety tannins and marked verticality.
Vintage notes
A colder-than-average winter was followed by a fairly warm spring with normal rainfall. June was relatively rainy, supporting regular vine development and even berry growth, while the rest of summer was comparatively dry. Wide day–night temperature variation in September encouraged the development of valuable compounds in the berries. Significant rainfall delayed harvest, producing grapes that balanced technological and phenolic ripeness with a pronounced aromatic component.
