About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

This Riserva is made only in the best vintages, using the finest fruit from La Poderina’s historic vineyards at Castelnuovo dell’Abate in Montalcino.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese Grosso.

Vinification

The grapes are picked exclusively by hand. Fermentation and maceration take place in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled 24–28°C with daily pumping over and délestage. Once alcoholic fermentation ends, post-fermentation maceration continues at 29°C.

Ageing

After racking, the wine moves into French oak barrels. Weekly bâtonnage continues for five months, followed by a further 19 months of wood ageing. The Riserva is released after six years of total maturation.

Tasting profile

Deep ruby red. The bouquet combines black cherry and red berries with balanced vanilla and tobacco notes, creating good aromatic complexity.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18°C in large glasses. Pair with roasted red meats, stews, roast game and aged cheeses.

Label / history

The name refers to the Abbey of Sant’Antimo, which stands opposite La Poderina and its vineyards. It pays tribute both to the denomination and to the artistic and architectural heritage of Montalcino.
