About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Moscato Bianco comes from the hills at the foot of the Abbey of Sant’Antimo in Montalcino, in the province of Siena. The La Poderina estate lies in the Castelnuovo dell’Abate area of Montalcino.
Grapes
Moscato Bianco.
Vinification
The grapes remain on the vines to concentrate before a selective late harvest. Picking is performed manually in three or four passes, with only well-ripened bunches collected. In favorable seasons, the selection includes ripe grapes affected by noble rot.
After pressing, the must is transferred to stainless-steel tanks and undergoes alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature of 15–18°C.
Ageing
The wine matures for nine months after alcoholic fermentation.
Tasting profile
Golden yellow in color. The nose combines dried-fruit aromas with honeyed notes. The palate is sweet and balanced, leading to a long finish.
Serving and pairing
Pair with mature cheeses, foie gras or traditional Tuscan liver crostini.
Label / history
Before Brunello rose to prominence, Moscadello was Montalcino’s most important wine. La Poderina has continued producing it to preserve the estate’s traditional wine styles, consistently choosing the more concentrated Vendemmia Tardiva expression. Its labor-intensive selection of concentrated, fully ripe fruit produces an elegant, aromatically complex wine.
