About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Moscato comes from Bricco Quaglia and other vineyards in Castagnole delle Lanze and Mango. The south-facing holdings cover 20 ha at 300 m above sea level. The vines average 40 years old and grow in calcareous marl with sandy characteristics.

Grapes

100% Moscato.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested slightly later than those destined for Moscato d’Asti and are then dried in the cellar. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place in new French oak barrels.

Ageing

The principal profile gives approximately 96 months of maturation in new French oak barrels followed by around three months in bottle. The 2013 technical sheet instead records at least 98 months of maturation, without specifying the vessel, and does not mention the subsequent bottle period.

Technical data

The 2013 vintage has 11% alcohol by volume and total acidity of 8.7 g/L. The wine is bottled in a 500 ml format, with average production of 2,000 bottles.

Tasting profile

The general profile is golden in colour, with dried fig, ripe orange and chestnut-honey aromas. It is rich and sweet on the palate, with sufficient acidity to give a clean, fresh finish. The 2013 vintage is gold, offering acacia honey, cardamom and dried apricot on the nose. Its texture is smooth and full, with citrus fruit and delicate spices leading to a mineral, persistent finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 10–15 °C in a Burgundy glass.

Vintage notes

The 2013 technical sheet specifies at least 98 months of maturation, while the principal profile gives approximately 96 months in new French oak barrels plus about three months in bottle.

Label / history

The first vintage was 1998. Oro refers to the wine’s luminous golden appearance and to the precious metal suggested by its name.
