About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards are close to the Adriatic Sea. They have clay-limestone soils containing a varied range of trace elements. The vines are 34 years old and planted at a density of 4,300 vines per hectare; yields are kept below 80 hl/ha.
The 23 ha estate lies in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Its soils are rich in dolomitic limestone, mineral deposits, clay and pebbles. The limestone-rich areas are suited to white varieties, while the mixture of clay and pebbles is suited to red varieties.
Grapes
The wine is made exclusively from Cabernet Franc.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested during the final ten days of September, carefully sorted and gently pressed. The must ferments for 15–20 days in temperature-controlled steel vats, with the cap punched down by hand each day.
Ageing
The wine matures in steel tanks for 8–10 months.
Label / history
Tenuta Maccan was founded in 2012.
