About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from two selected sites on the Piana Rotaliana: the Morei vineyard in Mezzolombardo and the San Marco vineyard in Mezzocorona. This zone north of Trento, delimited by Mezzocorona, Mezzolombardo and San Michele all’Adige, has predominantly gravelly and sandy soils formed through the influence of the Adige and Noce rivers. The vines are 25–40 years old and trained to pergola trentina.
Grapes
100% Teroldego Rotaliano.
Vinification
About one month before harvest, the tips of the bunches are cut to promote complete berry ripening. Harvest takes place strictly by hand at the end of September, with another selection of bunches. Yield is approximately 80 quintals per hectare. Fermentation proceeds in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks with two weeks of skin contact. After racking, the wine rests briefly in steel before transfer to barriques and tonneaux, where malolactic fermentation takes place.
Ageing
The wine matures in wood for two years. It is then transferred to stainless steel, filtered and bottled, followed by one year of bottle ageing.
Tasting profile
Garnet-ruby in colour, with a complex bouquet led by red fruit, raspberry jam and wild blackberry. Sweet-spice notes reflect the long maturation in wood. Balanced tannins give the palate body, structure, elegance and persistence; the overall profile is vivid and complex.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18–20°C after opening one hour in advance. Pair with red meat, boiled meats, snails in broth, game birds and aged cheeses. Regional matches include carne salada and risotto with Teroldego.
Vintage notes
The current Italian catalogue lists the 2021 release, while the indexed English product page still identifies the 2018 vintage. The Riserva is made only in selected vintages and in limited quantities.
