About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The grapes come from Meleto and San Piero. The vineyards were planted between 1972 and 1974, are Guyot-trained and have a density of 5,000 vines per hectare. Yields are 80 quintals per hectare for Trebbiano and Malvasia and 60 quintals per hectare for Sangiovese.

Grapes

90% Trebbiano, 5% Sangiovese and 5% Malvasia.

Vinification

Bunches are selected on the vine and picked by hand. They are hung vertically in the vinsantaia for natural drying in well-ventilated rooms. Once drying is complete, fermentation takes place entirely in sealed acacia- and cherry-wood caratelli. The vessels are filled to 70% during fermentation and are kept in rooms subject to pronounced seasonal temperature changes.

Ageing

The wine undergoes an extended maturation in the same sealed acacia- and cherry-wood caratelli.

Tasting profile

Amber yellow. The bouquet brings together dried fruit, honey and apricot with vanilla, caramel and spice. The palate is full and velvety, with substantial structure and roundness. A balanced acidic note carries through the long, persistent finish.
