About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in Sulcis, in southwestern Sardinia. The Mediterranean climate has low, unevenly distributed rainfall, frequent northwesterly winds, hot springs and summers, and winters ranging from cold and dry to mild. The rich, medium-textured soils combine sand and calcareous clay and have a good mineral supply. Yields are approximately 90 hL/ha.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested into small crates. A portion undergoes 12 hours of maceration at 6–8 °C before gentle pressing. The juice ferments in stainless-steel tanks at 14–16 °C, followed by stabilization.
Ageing
The wine rests in tanks for approximately two months and then in bottle for at least two months.
Tasting profile
The aroma is inviting. The palate is lively and refreshing, with bright acidity.
Label / history
Cantina Mesa was founded by designer Gavino Sanna and Giuseppe Mele out of an attachment to Sardinia and its culture. Its 100 ha of vineyards lie among the sky, sea and hills of Porto Pino. The winery's minimalist white façade bears motifs inspired by traditional Sardinian carpet weaving; designed by Sanna, these motifs also appear on every Cantina Mesa bottle. The winery's team includes winemaker Piero Sella.
In Sardinia and in Spanish, mesa literally means “dining table”; for the winery, the name evokes food, feasts, maternal love, simplicity and aromas.
