About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from 2 ha in Gallina, within the municipality of Neive, identified as map sheet 10, parcels 114 and 327. The vineyard lies at 200 m. The wine page gives a southern exposure, while the technical sheet describes it as southeastern. Planting is at 2.70 × 0.90 m, equivalent to 4,500 vines per hectare, with Guyot training on a vertical trellis. One part of the vineyard is 50 years old and the more recent planting is 13 years old. Yield is 60 quintals per hectare. Marl containing a significant proportion of very fine sand shapes the wine’s profile.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo.

Vinification

Harvest takes place in the first week of October. Grapes are selected manually in the vineyard and again in the cellar, where approximately 18 kg crates are emptied onto a sorting conveyor. Destemming and crushing are particularly gentle. Alcoholic fermentation and maceration continue for approximately 25 days at a controlled 28°C. Malolactic fermentation follows in December.

Ageing

The wine matures for approximately 24 months in 40 hl French and Austrian oak casks. It is bottled at the end of summer and receives a further 6 months of bottle ageing before release.

Technical data

Annual production is approximately 6,000 bottles.

Tasting profile

Ruby red with pale garnet nuances. The style combines elegance, aromatic and textural finesse, balance and complexity. Ripe red fruit, spices and violet define the bouquet. The palate is marked by an upright tannic profile, enveloping tannins and excellent persistence.
