About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The wine comes from a 0.40 ha parcel in Brunate, within the municipality of La Morra, identified as map sheet 11, parcel 414. The vines stand at 300 m with a southeastern exposure. Planting is at 2.70 × 0.90 m, equivalent to 4,500 vines per hectare, with Guyot training on a vertical trellis. The vines are 50–60 years old and yield 50 quintals per hectare. The vineyard has been farmed organically since 2010.
Grapes
100% Nebbiolo.
Vinification
Harvest occurs during the first ten days of October. Grapes undergo strict manual selection in the vineyard and again on a conveyor in the cellar. Destemming and crushing are exceptionally gentle; in the best vintages, berries are removed from their stems manually. Fermentation and maceration last approximately 25 days at a controlled temperature of about 28°C. Malolactic fermentation follows in December.
Ageing
The wine matures for approximately 30 months in 20 hl French oak casks. Bottling takes place at the end of summer, followed by 1 year in bottle before release.
Technical data
Production is approximately 2,000 bottles.
Tasting profile
Ruby in colour, tending towards garnet. Intense rose and violet notes are joined by hints of wet earth and ripe red fruit. The tannins are exceptionally persistent yet sweet in character. Its structure points to an evolution that will unfold over a long period.
