About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The vineyard is situated at Scrimaglio in the municipality of Nizza Monferrato. It lies at 250 m with a southern exposure. Vine age varies from 30 to 60 years, and the yield is 70 quintals per hectare.

Grapes

100% Barbera.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested manually and selected in the vineyard during the third ten-day period of September. Fermentation and maceration take place in stainless-steel vessels for approximately 15 days. Malolactic fermentation follows in November.

Ageing

The wine matures for 16 months in oak casks ranging from 40 to 65 hl. The lots are blended in spring and bottled in summer.

Technical data

Production ranges from 8,000 to 10,000 bottles.

Tasting profile

Deep ruby red when young, developing elegant garnet reflections with time. Red fruit, bitter cocoa and coffee lead the bouquet; additional bottle age brings a more pronounced spicy and wild character. The palate is dry and full-bodied, with firm structural energy, dense texture and a distinctive personality.

Label / history

Beginning with the 2014 harvest, Oddero’s Barbera d’Asti adopted the Nizza DOCG designation after meeting the requirements of the new denomination.
