About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Porcaria is a 1.5-hectare parcel within the larger Contrada Feudo di Mezzo, at approximately 650 metres. Its thin layer of silty lava crumbles underfoot, and the parcel has ideal sun exposure. The 2024 vines were approximately 90 years old, planted at 8,000 vines per hectare, with a yield of 45 quintals per hectare.
Organic vineyard treatments comprise clay, propolis, grapefruit-seed extract, sulphur and copper.
Grapes
100% Nerello Mascalese.
Vinification
The 2024 crop was harvested manually on 5 October and fermented in stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine matured for 18 months in large Slavonian oak casks. Malolactic fermentation takes place in the large casks before maturation continues.
Technical data
Etna Rosso DOC. Alcohol: 14.5%. The 2024 was bottled on 16 February 2026, with total production of 2,733 bottles.
Tasting profile
The 2024 combines ripe red-fruit aromas with elegant spice. The palate is broad and well structured, with velvety, integrated tannins balanced by vibrant acidity, giving the wine harmony and depth. The parcel character is rich and generous, with a shifting aromatic profile, an exotic body and an echo of burnt sugar.
Vintage notes
The 2024 season began with a mild winter and a regular spring, with flowering between late May and early June. Intense summer heat and drought required night-time irrigation where possible. Rain and scattered hail arrived in early August. Nerello Mascalese was picked across the estate from 3 to 11 October; Porcaria was harvested manually on 5 October.
From the 2024 vintage, the parcel returned to the DOC denomination, allowing the full geographical names Feudo di Mezzo and Porcaria to appear on the label. Earlier releases were labelled Contrada P.
Label / history
The estate began bottling the individual Contrade separately in 2008 and changed their labels in 2009. For 2024, Contrada P became Contrada Feudo di Mezzo – Porcaria.
