About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Selected Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo and Canaiolo grapes come from the Chianti production area in Tuscany.

Grapes

Latest precise published composition: 90% Sangiovese, 5% Ciliegiolo and 5% Canaiolo.

Vinification

The clusters are carefully selected and vinified at controlled temperature, followed by a long maceration in steel vats. The process is designed to soften the palate and emphasize the wine's fruit.

Technical data

Chianti DOCG. The 2024 shop release has 12.5% alcohol and comes in a 0.75 L bottle. A separate Winter Edition data sheet gives 13% alcohol.

Tasting profile

Ruby red in colour. Red-fruit and aromatic-herb fragrances lead the bouquet. The palate is rich, smooth and well structured, with velvety tannins and an intense ripe-fruit finish. The technical sheet also characterizes the red-fruit aroma as intense and persistent.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 16–18°C for the 2024 shop release. It is versatile with appetizers, first courses, hearty soups, roasted meats and pizza.

Label / history

Around the turn of the millennium, Mario Piccini set out to recast traditional Chianti in a fresher, more contemporary form for a new generation. While Mario favoured red for the new presentation and his sister Martina proposed yellow, their father encouraged a compromise: orange, also evoking sunsets over the Chianti hills. The resulting Chianti Orange became closely identified with the company; Piccini subsequently adopted orange as a symbol of innovation, dynamism and family unity. A Winter Edition later appeared with six seasonal label designs.
