About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The wine brings together fruit from sites selected by the Pio family over many years. Its origins combine calcareous-clay soils and compact marl with looser alluvial and sandy soils. Variations in soil, microclimate and altitude contribute complementary characteristics to the final blend.

Grapes

Barbera.

Vinification

Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks, accompanied by a long maceration on the skins. Wines from the different sites are subsequently combined in a meticulous final blend.

Ageing

Ageing lasts nearly 12 months, principally in large barrels made from French and Eastern European oak. A small portion matures in French oak barriques. This is followed by a long period of bottle ageing.

Tasting profile

The combination of contrasting sites and prolonged cellar ageing produces a balanced expression of acidity, fruit and spice, supported by structure and roundness. It is approachable, versatile at the table and capable of excellent longevity.

Serving and pairing

Its balanced, approachable profile is suited to many different types of cuisine.
