About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from family-owned vineyards in Vho, in the village of Tortona. The vineyards lie at 250 m and have full southern exposure. Their soils are described as calcareous and clay-rich, with the discussion of the wine’s character referring more specifically to a calcareous-marly composition.

The wine was conceived to express the complexity, structure, restraint and longevity of Piedmont terroir through the local Timorasso variety. Full southern exposure and the soil composition contribute minerality, structure and longevity. Early harvesting and Timorasso’s medium-to-large berries support the wine’s aromatic complexity and expression.

Grapes

Timorasso.

Vinification

The grapes undergo a short, partial maceration on the skins. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks.

Ageing

Following fermentation, the wine remains in stainless steel for approximately one year. It then rests in bottle for almost two years before release; this extended bottle maturation enables the Riserva designation.

Tasting profile

A mineral, structured and long-lived white with aromatic complexity and expression. With further ageing, its mineral and petrol notes become increasingly pronounced.

Vintage notes

First released from the 2023 vintage and made in very limited quantities.

Label / history

Derthona continues the family’s ambition to interpret the complexity, structure, restraint and longevity of Piedmont’s terroir through a white wine made from a local grape variety.
