About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes mainly from the oldest vines in the Mosconi vineyard in Monforte d’Alba. Fides expresses the Pio family's long-standing commitment to cultivating Barbera in selected high-profile sites and giving the wine extended cellar maturation.
Grapes
Barbera.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks, followed by a long maceration on the skins.
Ageing
The wine matures for nearly 12 months, principally in large barrels made from French and Eastern European oak. A small portion is aged in French oak barriques. Long bottle maturation precedes release.
Tasting profile
Balanced and harmonious, with moderate acidity and an appealing concentration of fruit. It combines structure and complexity with a refined finish and has extraordinary ageing potential.
Label / history
“Fides” is the Latin translation of “trust,” referring to the Pio family's faith in and commitment to Barbera. The wine has been produced in small quantities every year since 1996.
