About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The 2023 Rosso came from vineyards at 480–520 m above sea level. Deep, clay-rich soils provide good water-holding capacity. The vines are trained to spurred cordon and Guyot and managed through organic and sustainable practices, including green manure, cover cropping, natural manure and plant fortifiers when required.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
The 2023 grapes were hand-picked from 30 September to 5 October at an average yield of 60 q/ha. Fermentation lasted 8 days in temperature-controlled truncated-cone stainless-steel vats, never exceeding 23°C. Six additional days of maceration followed. No punch-downs were used; gentle pump-overs kept the cap moist and mixed the liquid thoroughly.
Ageing
Half of the 2023 wine matured in stainless steel. The other half spent 12 months in large French oak barrels. Bottling took place in November 2024.
Technical data
Production of the 2023 vintage was 20,000 bottles.
Tasting profile
Rosso presents Sangiovese in a leaner, more immediate and direct form while retaining the clarity, freshness and tension associated with the estate. It combines accessibility with territorial character and is intended to be enjoyed in the present rather than treated as a lesser Brunello.
Vintage notes
The winter preceding the 2023 harvest was dry and mild, slightly delaying bud break. Dry conditions continued through April, followed by heavy rain from May to August that supported fruit set but increased mildew pressure; this was managed organically. Veraison began in early August, followed by a very hot end to summer. Persistent winds moderated both the rainy spring and summer heat.
