About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from vineyards in the Morellino di Scansano area. The wine is refined in the Montalcino cellars, alongside the Brunello barrels.
Tasting profile
Vaio combines structured, complex aromas with the fruit and freshness associated with a young red wine. It also has significant potential to develop and age.
Label / history
As grapes begin ripening in August, their skins gradually darken in the process locally known as invaiatura. The name Vaio recalls an old adjective meaning spotted or dappled with dark marks, or darkening as fruit, olives, and grapes ripen.
Morellino di Scansano attained DOCG status beginning with the 2007 harvest, becoming Tuscany’s seventh DOCG.
