About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The current wine comes from the terraced hills of Ruffoli in Greve in Chianti, at an average elevation of 450 m. The sites face west to southwest and have sandy, silty soils with abundant stones. The vines are trained to Guyot and spurred cordon and are described as approximately 20 years old.
The earlier blended version also incorporated fruit from Ruffoli and Dudda. Its Chardonnay came from a southwest-facing hillside parcel at 370 m, trained to Cordon de Royat; the 2020 technical sheet records Chardonnay vines aged 21 years and the other vines as more than 20 years old.
Grapes
Blend composition varies by vintage. Latest published vintage (2025): 100% Trebbiano Toscano. The 2020 version combined Trebbiano Toscano with Chardonnay from the Richiari vineyard, without published percentages.
Vinification
Harvest takes place in the second half of September. The current version undergoes white-wine fermentation with temperature control. For the 2020 blended version, the grapes were chilled before pressing, followed by a period of skin contact and careful separation before controlled-temperature alcoholic fermentation. Its Chardonnay component underwent cold pre-fermentation maceration, soft pressing and fermentation in new 228 L oak barrels.
Ageing
The current version is refined in stainless-steel tanks, bottled in March and given at least two months in bottle. For the 2020 version, Trebbiano spent 10 months in stainless steel, while Chardonnay aged on its lees in the same fermentation barrels for 9–10 months, with bâtonnage during the first three months. Bottling took place in June or July, followed by at least six months in bottle.
