About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Il Carbonaione is produced from the Carbonaione vineyard at Ruffoli, Greve in Chianti, in the province of Florence. The terraced hillside site has an average altitude of 450 m and faces west–southwest. Its sandy, loamy soil contains abundant stones. The vines are more than 80 years old and are trained using Guyot and Cordon de Royat systems.
Grapes
Sangiovese di Lamole.
Vinification
The harvest takes place during the first half of October. Alcoholic fermentation lasts 12 days in stainless-steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine matures for 14 months in 350 L oak tonneaux. Bottling takes place in June or July, followed by a minimum of six months of bottle maturation.
Technical data
Alta Valle della Greve IGT. The wine page gives an alcohol level of 13%, while the English technical sheet gives 13.5%. Average annual production is 25,000 × 750 ml bottles. Formats comprise 750 ml bottles in six-bottle cartons and 1.5 L, 3 L, 6 L and 12 L bottles in individual wooden cases; wooden cases containing six 750 ml bottles are available on request.

Label / history
First produced in 1992, Il Carbonaione was conceived by Vittorio Fiore after years of study and professional experience. Its identity rests on the relationship between Sangiovese and the vineyards of Ruffoli. Grapes from the Carbonaione vineyard are transformed by Vittorio and his son Jurij.
