About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
In Violas comes from Cortona, where broad plateaus with a high concentration of Pliocene clay are planted to Merlot. The soils are compact and dense, with iron oxide. The Cortona project developed through Poliziano’s relationship with the Aliotti Tommasi family, owners of the vineyard land.
Grapes
100% Merlot.
Vinification
The first grape selection takes place manually in the vineyard.
Ageing
The wine matures for approximately 16–18 months in French-oak barriques.
Technical data
Annual production ranges from 12,000 to 18,000 bottles.
Label / history
The creation of the Cortona DOC in 1999 and the area’s emergence as a site for international grape varieties inspired Poliziano’s Cortona project. In Violas was first bottled in 2006 to explore the character of Merlot grown on Cortona’s Pliocene clays.
