About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The wine comes from 47 ha of estate vineyards at 300–450 m a.s.l., with various exposures. The soils are silty clay with a moderate presence of stones, and planting density ranges from 3,000 to 6,000 vines per hectare. Harvesting is manual, followed by optical sorting.
Grapes
Blend proportions vary: 90–95% Sangiovese, locally called Prugnolo Gentile, and 5–10% other grapes.
Vinification
Fermentation and maceration take place in truncated-conical stainless-steel vats over 15–20 days.
Ageing
The wine matures in wood for 12–14 months. Two-thirds ages in French-oak tonneaux and one-third in vats.
Technical data
Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG. First produced in 1968. Average production ranges from 180,000 to 250,000 bottles. Ageing potential is 10–15 years.
Tasting profile
A structured, age-worthy red with intense aromas. Sangiovese character carries from nose to palate, with juicy amarena cherry and plum joined by tertiary notes of Mediterranean scrub and black pepper.
Label / history
The wine is presented as an expression of its Tuscan origins and Montepulciano’s longstanding relationship between land, people and wine culture.
