About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Vigneto Asinone covers 12 hectares at 380–400 m above sea level. It occupies the south-southwest-facing slope beside the road descending from Montepulciano toward Torrita di Siena. The clay soil and the vineyard's particular microclimate contribute to the wine's character.
The vines are more than 30 years old, with some reaching 50 years. They produce small Prugnolo Gentile berries.
Grapes
The blend is based on Sangiovese, with Colorino and Canaiolo potentially included depending on the vintage. Blend proportions vary from year to year.
Ageing
The wine matures for 16–18 months in French-oak tonneaux.
Technical data
Approximately 25,000 bottles are produced.
Tasting profile
A muscular character is balanced by pronounced elegance on the palate.
Label / history
Asinone emerged from years of experimentation aimed at identifying the vineyard with the strongest qualitative potential. Its name refers to the vineyard's distinctive donkey-back shape: the place was already called “Asinone” and appears under that name on old local maps.
