About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are high-sugar fruit grown in Emilia-Romagna. The Emilia wine region lies mainly on the plain of the Po River valley, but some of its best vineyards are in the foothills of the Apennines, near the border with Tuscany. Of the cooperative's vineyards, 80% are on mountain slopes.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and vinified by the traditional method for red wines. Fermentation is stopped by cooling, which keeps some residual sugar. The finished wine contains 30–45 g/l of sugar.
Tasting profile
Marzemino is noted for a distinctive aroma and deep colour.
Serving and pairing
Pairs with meat dishes, appetizers, mature cheeses and desserts.
Label / history
Cantina Puianello was founded in 1938 by five winemaking families who joined forces to produce the classic wines of Emilia-Romagna. New members joined over time, and the vineyards grew to 300 ha. In 2005 a merger with Coviolo brought the cooperative to 398 members and 436 hectares of vineyards. In 2012 it carried out a major renovation of the winery and upgraded its equipment.
