Vineyard and terroir

BoscoRiccio comes from the 4 ha Serre di Rapolano vineyard at 300 m above sea level. The east–west-facing site has deep, limestone-rich soil. Its ten-year-old, Guyot-trained vines are planted at 5,000 vines per hectare and average 1 kg of fruit per plant.

Grapes

Vinification

Harvest takes place in the first half of October. Maceration lasts 25 days at approximately 25°C, and malolactic fermentation occurs in stainless steel.

Ageing

The wine spends at least 8 months in barriques and tonneaux of various ages.

Technical data

Annual production is approximately 15,000 bottles.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 16°C with grilled meats or medium-aged cheeses.

Label / history

The name joins two emblems of the estate’s surroundings. “Bosco” refers to the forest with which the territory has coexisted for centuries, while “Riccio,” meaning hedgehog, evokes the spiny chestnut husk and thus the chestnut tree that gave Castagnoli and the winery their name. Conceived as a youthful, fresh and colourful wine for informal, convivial drinking, its character is described through playful references to funk and rock.
