About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from several plots at Fattoria di Scannano in Serre di Rapolano, in the Sienese hills near the thermal area of Rapolano. The 16 ha of vineyards lie at an average elevation of 300 m, with varied exposures and medium-textured soils. The vines average 20 years of age and are planted at 4,000 vines per hectare. Both spur and cane pruning are used, with an average yield of 1.5 kg per vine.
Grapes
Sangiovese with Ciliegiolo.
Vinification
Harvest takes place in the first half of October. Maceration lasts approximately 8–10 days at a controlled temperature of 28°C. Malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel. The wine receives light filtration to retain freshness and aromatic fragrance.
Ageing
Maturation lasts at least four months in oak barrels, followed by a minimum of three months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Ruby red with violet reflections. The intense nose combines fruit and vinous aromas with a balanced touch of wood. The palate is soft, with lively, sweet tannins and an emphasis on freshness and fragrance.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16°C. Pair with pasta or other first courses dressed with meat sauces, Tuscan ribollita, white meats and medium-aged cheeses.
