About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Pratola comes from a 4 ha vineyard planted at 350–400 m above sea level, with north–south exposure and 5,000 vines per hectare. The vines are Guyot-trained and listed as 16 years old, with an average yield of 1 kg per plant. The medium-textured soil contains abundant rock fragments characteristic of the Alberese zone, together with limestone. The site receives ample sunlight but is protected from the strongest rays. Marked night-time temperature changes encourage gradual, even ripening, supporting soft tannins and complex flavours; the Alberese-rich ground contributes minerality and natural acidity.

Grapes

The wine has been 100% Colorino since the 2018 vintage. Through the 2015 vintage it was made entirely from Merlot.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested during the first half of October. Maceration lasts 10–12 days at approximately 28°C. Malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel.

Ageing

Ageing comprises at least 18 months in barriques of various ages, at least 6 months in stainless steel and a minimum of 1 year in bottle.

Technical data

Annual production is approximately 7,000 bottles.

Tasting profile

A deeply concentrated ruby-red wine with violet reflections. Black cherry leads the aroma, followed by chocolate, cinnamon, tobacco and black pepper. The palate is soft and fleshy, shaped by delicate tannins, with a notably persistent finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 16°C with grilled meats or medium-aged cheeses.

Vintage notes

The grape variety changed between releases: the wine was 100% Merlot through 2015 and has been 100% Colorino since 2018.
