About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The technical sheet places the origin in the Langhe, while the product page specifies multiple Podere Rocche dei Manzoni vineyards in Monforte d’Alba (CN). Sustainable farming is aimed at reducing fungicide use. The vines are Guyot-trained at 4,000 plants per hectare, with yields of 50–60 quintals per hectare.

Grapes

A red-wine blend. The individual varieties and their proportions are not specified in the current product materials.

Vinification

Controlled-temperature fermentation takes place in contact with the skins.

Ageing

The wine matures for 24–30 months in small oak barrels and then in cement. It receives approximately 12 further months in bottle before release.

Technical data

Vintage-dated wine with an expected cellaring life of 20–30 years. Available formats are 0.75 L, 1.5 L, 3 L, 5 L and 12 L.

Tasting profile

Bright and transparent carmine red shading toward garnet. The bouquet combines ripe cherry and plum with menthol, camphor, cinnamon and nutmeg. Discreet oak supports the fruit and balsamic freshness, while violet and dried flowers add a floral Nebbiolo-like accent.

The palate closely mirrors the bouquet. Its authoritative but controlled tannins remain unobtrusive and show no bitter edge. Violet-candy flavors can become more prominent than the fruit, while gentian and rhubarb lend balsamic freshness and depth. The finish is exceptionally persistent.

Label / history

First produced in 1976, Bricco Manzoni is identified as the first blended wine made in the Langa.
