About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The wine comes from Vigna Cappella di S. Stefano in Perno, Monforte d’Alba (CN). The vineyard is farmed sustainably with the aim of reducing fungicide use. Vines are Guyot trained at a density of 4,000 plants per hectare, with yields of 45–50 quintals per hectare.
Grapes
100% Nebbiolo.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place at controlled temperature in contact with the skins.
Ageing
The wine matures for approximately 30 months in wood, followed by around 12 months of bottle refinement before release. Its expected cellaring life exceeds 30 years.
Technical data
Barolo D.O.C.G. Available in 0.75 L, 1.5 L and 3 L bottles. The first vintage produced was 1993. The technical figures represent averages across several years and may vary with the vintage.
Tasting profile
The colour is vivid and healthy, with pronounced transparency. It progresses from carmine toward garnet and an almost brick-like shade reminiscent of old terracotta roof tiles. Clearly defined arches and tears indicate notable fluidity.
The nose is refined, poised and harmonious. Fruit, flowers, spice and balsamic nuances form a precise, integrated aromatic profile. Fine spice accompanies the floral and fruity notes, while a restrained touch of vanilla contributes roundness and softness.
The palate balances soft, velvety tannins with delicate freshness. Generous, continuous salivation reflects well-integrated savouriness. The tannins sit naturally within a rounded, elegant and coherent structure, while the alcohol feels enveloping without heat. The finish is exceptionally persistent, long and refined, led by dried aromatic herbs, near-balsamic tones and measured spice. The overall profile combines power with elegance, structure with drinkability.
Awards
The 2020 vintage received 94 points from Galloni–Vinous, 93.5 points from Guida Vitae 2025, five grappoli from Bibenda and three stelle from Veronelli. The 2019 vintage received PLATINO from Merano The WineHunter, five stars in Enos Wein & Kultur’s “Dream Wines, the Little Elite,” five grappoli from Bibenda and 96 points from Galloni–Vinous.
