About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Lagrein comes from 15-year-old, vertical espalier-trained vines in Gries, a suburb of Bolzano and one of the variety’s oldest established growing areas. Deep, warm alluvial soils combine gravel with eroded granite and porphyry. The Bolzano valley basin brings very warm days followed by cool nights. Yield is 49 hl/ha.
Grapes
Lagrein.
Vinification
Fermentation on the skins lasts 15 days, with the cap regularly and gently punched down. Several further days of skin contact follow at the end of alcoholic fermentation. The wine is then transferred to large wooden casks for malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
Maturation takes place in barriques for 16 months, followed by another 10 months in bottle before release.
