About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Chardonnay is grown in the Lafoa vineyard, on a mountain ridge at 430 m above sea level.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in September at their highest sugar concentration. After cold settling and gentle pressing, half of the must ferments in stainless-steel tanks and half in French oak barrels from Allier and Tronçais.
Ageing
The wine ages for 10 months before bottling, followed by a further six months in the winery’s cellars.
Label / history
The label was created by the Guardenti design studio and depicts a fertility goddess inspired by a sculpture by Guido Muss Mosna.
The Colterenzio cooperative was founded in 1960 by 28 local winemakers. It now comprises 290 members with 300 ha of vineyards. In the early 1980s, director Luis Raifer pursued higher quality standards and expressive single-varietal wines reflecting the Cornaiano area. His younger son, Wolfgang, took charge of the company and its marketing in 2005. Lafoa is one of the cooperative’s four ranges, alongside Cornell, Praedium and Classic.
