About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Chardonnay grows at 380–470 m above sea level in sandy soils with gravelly morainic deposits. Yield is 55–60 hl/ha. The wine was conceived to give a distinct identity to high-quality Chardonnay parcels contributed by members of the cooperative.

Grapes

Chardonnay.

Vinification

The grapes are gently pressed. Most of the must ferments in large wooden barrels of 35–50 hL, while a smaller portion is vinified in 500 L tonneaux.

Ageing

The wine matures on its lees for approximately 7 months with regular bâtonnage. Maturation takes place mainly in large oak vessels of 35–50 hL, supplemented by a small proportion of used 500 L tonneaux. After bottling, it receives approximately one additional month of bottle ageing.

Technical data

  • Alcohol: 13.5% vol.
  • Total acidity: 5.9 g/L
  • Residual sugar: 1.0 g/L

Tasting profile

Bright straw yellow with green reflections. The aroma is intense, combining yellow stone fruit, ripe citrus and exotic fruit with delicate hazelnut and vanilla. Honeydew melon, pineapple, yellow peach and banana further define the ripe-fruit character. The palate is harmonious and balanced, with round, smooth, well-integrated acidity.

Serving and pairing

Serve lightly chilled at 10–12°C. Pair with savoury starters, fish dishes and white meats. Cellaring potential is 5–7 years.

Label / history

The name commemorates 1983, the year Colterenzio produced and released its first Chardonnay. The project began with the 2022 vintage, initially as a trial in which selected grapes were vinified separately. Its quality led to inclusion in the Selections range. The inaugural wine was bottled in May, rested for another month, and reached the market in early June, approximately eight months after harvest.
