About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from hillside vineyards in Entiklar/Niclara and Cortaccia. The current page identifies two principal origins: Entiklar and Margreider Leiten, with chalk-gravel moraine soils and south to southeast exposure, and Brenntal and Frauenriegel, where red sandy loam faces east. Elevations span 220–350 m. The 2023 technical sheet narrows its stated range to 310–350 m. Vines are Guyot-trained at 6,000–7,000 plants per hectare and were planted from 1992 onward. Yield is 40–50 hl/ha.
Grapes
100% Gewürztraminer.
Vinification
Following eight hours of maceration, 80% of the must ferments in concrete vats. The remaining 20% ferments in 450-litre oak barrels.
Ageing
The concrete-vat portion spends 10 months on fine lees, while the barrel-fermented portion remains for 10 months on first lees. The assembled wine receives another six months of bottle maturation.
Technical data
Blend proportions vary by vintage. Latest published composition: 100% Gewürztraminer.
