About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Rachtl is a 0.45 ha single vineyard at Aica di Sotto, Fiè allo Sciliar. The southeast-facing site lies at 590–630 m in the 2023 technical sheet. Guyot-trained vines planted from 1996 onward stand at a density of 8,000 vines/ha. Moderately silty sandy topsoil combines high salt levels with little humus; grey porphyry is conspicuous, while deeper layers are dominated by sandy-calcareous rock flour. The rock mixture contributes flinty mineral nuances and fresh acidity.

Grapes

100% Sauvignon Blanc.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested fully ripe in mid-September, when acidity remains pronounced. After eight hours of skin contact, they are gently pressed. Thirty percent of the must ferments spontaneously in small 450 l oak barrels and 70% in large wooden barrels.

Ageing

The wine matures on its lees for 11 months, with the long yeast contact developing suppleness and structure, followed by another 12 months in bottle.

Technical data

2023: 13.5% vol alcohol, 6.5 g/l acidity and 0.7 g/l residual sugar. Yield was 42 hl/ha and production amounted to 2,000 bottles. Ageing potential is at least ten years.

Tasting profile

Bright straw yellow with green reflections. Initially restrained, the nose gradually develops from flint, graphite and slate toward dried hay and exotic fruit. The palate is delicate and balanced, with fresh, pronounced acidity, juicy saline flavours and a persistent finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 10–12 °C. Pair with seafood, crustaceans, fish, pork, poultry or rice dishes.
