About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from a strictly delimited DOP-classified area in the province of Taranto.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested entirely by hand into small boxes and carefully sorted. Maceration takes place at a controlled temperature of 26–28 °C, followed by malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures in French and American oak barrels for at least 10 months.
Label / history
“Papale,” meaning “Papal” in Italian, commemorates the election of Pope Benedict XIII in 1724, when he was chosen from three candidates for the highest office in the Catholic Church. A native of Puglia, he preferred high-quality wine from his homeland whenever possible.
