About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
Vinea nel Bosco is a single-vineyard wine from Montefili’s highest vineyard, a 0.8-hectare parcel enclosed by a small wooded area. The vineyard lies at approximately 530–540 metres above sea level. Its forest-edge position produces substantial day-to-night temperature variation and an unusual microclimate for the Chianti area.
The soils combine Alberese, limestone and marl; the 2020 description further characterizes them as Alberese with calcareous-clayey sequences. The vines were planted around 2000–2001 and are trained using the Guyot system.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
Spontaneous fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks with indigenous yeasts.
Ageing
The wine matures for 26 months in 20-hectolitre oak botti, followed by at least 12 months in bottle.
Technical data
The wine has 14.5% alcohol, total acidity of 6.4 g/L and no measurable residual sugar (0.0 g/L). Total SO₂ is 94 mg/L.
The 2020 introductory text records 2,476 numbered bottles and 90 magnums. A separate technical block on the same page gives 2,412 bottles and 108 magnums.
Tasting profile
The 2020 opens with plum, red fruit and blood orange, followed by balsamic tones and violet. Its palate is composed and textural, with integrated, delicate tannins, firm structure and a long finish that moves toward bitter chocolate.
A further tasting description emphasizes ripe red cherry, cranberry and apricot, layered with nutmeg, ginger and prune. The wine is bright, precise and fragrant, with a lively, persistent finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C and decant for one to two hours. Pair with grilled or roasted meats, substantial pasta dishes and aged cheeses.
