About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are harvested from eight-year-old vines grown in the hills of Monferrato at 300–320 m. The vineyards face south-west and have clay-limestone soils, with 4,200 vines per hectare trained using the Guyot system.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in October. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks for two weeks, followed by malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures for four months: 80% in stainless-steel tanks and 20% in oak barriques.
Tasting profile
The nose has a rich fruity aroma. The palate is smooth and rounded, with balanced acidity.
Label / history
The wine was first released in 2004. Villa Sparina's owner, Stefano Moccagatta, designed the estate's unusually shaped bottles, taking inspiration from paintings by his favourite artist, Giorgio Morandi.
