About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the single Monterotondo vineyard in the hills of Monferrato, at 310–350 metres above sea level. The approximately 60-hectare site has marl soils and 50-year-old vines. It is surrounded by woodland and cooled by winds from the Ligurian Sea.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. The wine undergoes partial malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine rests on its lees for four months in barriques, followed by four months in stainless-steel tanks.
Label / history
Owner Stefano Moccagatta, an admirer of the Italian painter Giorgio Morandi, drew inspiration from Morandi’s work for the bottle’s distinctive design. Monterotondo was the first wine in the commune to receive Gambero Rosso’s Tre Bicchieri award. In 2009, it was selected as the official wine of the Great8 energy forum in Rome.
