About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Cortese comes from a small 5-hectare vineyard with a southwesterly exposure, at 250–300 m altitude. The soils are limestone and marl, and the vines average 20 years old.
Grapes
Made entirely from Cortese.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in mid-September. Most of the wine is fermented in stainless-steel tanks and a small portion in large oak barrels, at 16 °C.
Ageing
The wine is aged briefly in both stainless steel and oak tonneaux.
Tasting profile
Exceptionally fresh and fruit-filled.
Label / history
The first vintage of Ottosoldi was 2010. The name honours the grandfather of the Moccagatta brothers, the owners of Villa Sparina. He once bought a small estate for "otto soldi" ("eight coins"), figuratively a fortune for very little money.
Villa Sparina was built in the 18th century in Monterotondo, in the Gavi region, by the Marquis Franzoni di Genova. The estate has belonged to the Moccagatta family since the 1970s. It covers 100 ha, 70 ha of which are vineyards.
