About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The grapes come from the hills of Barbaresco, Neive and Treiso and from part of San Rocco Seno d’Elvio d’Alba. Vineyard exposure, local microclimates and clayey limestone soils rich in tufaceous marl shape the growing conditions. The vines are Guyot-trained and yield approximately 50 hl/ha.

Grapes

Nebbiolo.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and crushed very gently. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Skin contact lasts 15–20 days depending on the vintage, with frequent pumping over to assist extraction. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation follows racking.

Ageing

Total maturation lasts 26 months, including nine months in medium-sized oak barrels. The wine has an ageing potential of 10–15 years depending on vintage.

Technical data

Alcohol is presented as 13–14.5% vol. on the wine page, while the Italian technical sheet specifies 13.5% vol.

Tasting profile

Garnet red with ruby highlights. The ethereal bouquet evokes rose, violet, red-fruit jam and raspberry, followed by vanilla, nutmeg, white pepper and aniseed. It is full-bodied and balanced, with persistent flavour and tannins that remain integrated rather than dominant.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18–20°C and open one hour before serving. Suitable partners include pasta with meat sauces, red meat, braised dishes, game and cheeses, including mature examples.

Vintage notes

The 2022 vintage received a published score of 90 points in 2025.

Label / history

Villadoria holds ministerial authorization to vinify and mature Nebbiolo for Barbaresco outside the denomination’s production area, an authorization granted to a limited number of historic estates in the Barolo zone. Its approach is traditional, using extended skin contact and large barrels to emphasize Barbaresco’s elegance.
