About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The fruit comes from the Paradiso vineyard in Sorì Cappallotto, Serralunga d’Alba, an estate site owned entirely by the Lanzavecchia family. The steep, south-west-facing hill has its own microclimate and sedimentary limestone-marl soils containing a substantial proportion of quartz. Its vines bear loose bunches with small berries. The vineyard is Guyot-trained at approximately 4,500 vines per hectare, with an average vine age of 15 years and a yield of about 45 hl/ha.

Grapes

Nebbiolo.

Vinification

The grapes are picked by hand, destemmed and crushed very gently. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at no more than 28°C. Maceration lasts 25–28 days to build polyphenolic content and structure. After alcoholic fermentation, the warmth retained by the new wine encourages spontaneous malolactic fermentation.

Ageing

The wine spends approximately 20 months or more in Slavonian oak barrels before completing a total maturation period of 38 months in tanks. This traditional regime tempers the firm tannins while retaining the wine’s structure. It becomes ready to drink around five years after harvest and can develop for at least 25 years.

Technical data

Alcohol: 13–14.5% vol.

Tasting profile

Ruby red with garnet highlights. The intense, complex bouquet combines rose, violet, cherries in alcohol, liquorice, goudron and truffle. The palate is austere, powerful and full-bodied, built around dense noble tannins. A mineral note contributes to the enveloping, harmonious and persistent finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 20°C and open one hour beforehand. Pair with richly flavoured red meat, aged cheeses or truffle dishes.

Label / history

Sorì Paradiso expresses the power and traditional character associated with Serralunga d’Alba. The Lanzavecchia family selected this estate vineyard for separate vinification in the most successful vintages.
