Vineyard and terroir
La Villa takes its name from a specific area within the Castelletto cru at Monforte d’Alba. Grapes are selected from the oldest portion of a 2-hectare vineyard, whose vines are 40–60 years old. The site is at 350 m above sea level, with medium-textured soil dominated by limestone. The detailed site data identify a south-east exposure, while the introductory description refers to a south-facing site.
Grapes
Nebbiolo.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in October. Fermentation and maceration on the skins take place in rotary fermenters for approximately 10–15 days at a controlled temperature of 25–30°C. Malolactic fermentation is completed before maturation.
Ageing
The wine spends approximately 12 months in 225-L French oak barriques, followed by 12–18 months in large 50-hL oak casks.
Tasting profile
Full-bodied, garnet red in colour with orange reflections. The complex, balsamic bouquet ranges from mint and liquorice to preserved red fruit. The palate combines velvety tannins with finesse, elegance and a long, harmonious finish.
Serving and pairing
Pair with roast meat, game and aged cheese.
