Vineyard and terroir
Incrocio Manzoni grows in a 0.8-hectare vineyard at Castelletto in Monforte d’Alba. The north-facing site lies at 300 m above sea level. Its young, shallow soils formed from marine sediments of the Serravallian-period Lequio Formation approximately 12 million years ago. They are calcareous, with silt, clay and abundant sand; the vineyard page also records gravel. The vines are approximately four years old.
Grapes
Incrocio Manzoni, created by Professor Luigi Manzoni by crossing Pinot Bianco with Riesling Renano.
Vinification
Harvesting is by hand from late August to early September. The grapes undergo soft pressing with immediate separation of the skins. Cold static settling clarifies the must before a controlled-temperature fermentation lasting 10–15 days in stainless steel.
Ageing
The wine matures in stainless steel until bottling.
Tasting profile
Pale straw yellow with greenish reflections. The intense, complex bouquet combines citrus, peach and white flowers with a mineral background. The palate has pronounced acidity, good fruit and a savoury character, with freshness and persistence through the finish.
Serving and pairing
Pair with fish, shellfish, soft-cheese dishes, vegetables or white meats. It can also be served as an aperitif or at the end of an evening.
Label / history
In Piedmontese dialect, Rapui evokes the small, short and stocky bunches produced by these vines.
